Post Crossover- How to find the bills that are still alive
Yesterday was First Crossover. It was the last day for bills in their originating chamber to move to the opposite chamber for further consideration. In order to make this deadline, bills had to move past every committee they were referred to and survive 3-floor votes. Bills that are still left in their originating chamber at this point are dead. The Directories have arrived!
The 2020 Hawai’i Directory of Public Officials have arrived and are available for pickup in our office during regular business hours (7:45 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday). Come and get ’em!
Lateral Deadline Quickly Approaching
The Triple Referral Filing Deadline has passed and the First Lateral Deadline is quickly approaching. By the end of the day next Friday (February 14th), all bills must move to their last referral committee in their originating chamber. It’s called “lateral” because the bills move “sideways” from one committee to another within each chamber rather than “forward” from the House to the Senate or vice versa.

As session unfolds, here are a few items for your attention:The new 2020 bills start their numbering with HB1598 and SB2001, since this is a carryover year. 2020 Session Calendar is Out
The 2020 Session calendar has been released. The 2020 Session will begin on Jan 15, and end on May 7th. If Session seems a little longer than usual, it’s because a few more recess days were added to the calendar near the end of Session.
