2018 Regular Session – Statistics

The Governor’s deadline for taking action on bills has passed. If you’re looking for a statistical wrap up of the 2018 Regular Session, we’ve got you covered. Here’s a breakdown:

Keep your eye out for the list of bills the Governor may veto

It should be posted in the next few days — the Governor has until Monday, June 25th (that’s 35 days after adjournment sine die, not counting weekends or holidays) to provide the Legislature with his intent-to-veto list.

Wrapping things up

Today is the last day for conference committees to find agreement on any bill that did not have a Finance (FIN) or Ways and Means (WAM) referral. The deadline for negotiations to wrap up is 6:00 p.m. (Bills with money referrals have until tomorrow.) The Directories Have Arrived

The incredibly handy, pocket-sized “2018 Hawaii Directory of Public Officials″ booklets — which includes contact information for Hawaii’s legislators — are here.

The directories’ long-time publisher, the Hawaii Institute for Public Affairs (HIPA), has handed over publishing duties to a new sponsor, Pacific Resource Partnership (PRP). They’ve generously provided the Public Access Room with an ample supply of the directories for distribution – so come get yours.

The bills are in the hopper! Yesterday was the deadline to introduce bills, so you’re now able to review all the Senate and House bills — just click on the “Reports and Lists” button on the Legislature’s homepage and you’ll find links to the reports. Scroll down until you get to the new bills — 2018 bill numbers start with HB1602 and SB2001.
